Abstract

The purpose of this article is to understand the origins of studies on Emotional Intelligence, clarify the concept and identify the current state of research. A quantitative study was conducted through bibliometric research with citation and co-citation analyses. A total of 9,048 articles were selected, published until 2021, in the Web of Science database. A Bibliometric Analysis can help to map the main approaches and clarify the conceptual pillars built, in order to synthesize findings from previous research, facilitate the dissemination of knowledge and, thus, contribute to the advancement of the research field. The most relevant authors, the most influential articles, the main conceptual approaches adopted and the collaborative construction on the topic were identified. This article contributes by portraying the trajectory taken in the development of the conceptual framework for research on Emotional Intelligence and encouraging new avenues of research.
