Abstract

The research addresses the use of bicycles as an alternative transportation in the city of Santos,
located in the coast of São Paulo. The traffic increase causes congestion and inconvenience to
population. The use of differentiated and interconnected models can provide better urban mobility.
The bicycle is one of the best option as a fast, economical and sustainable transportation. Therefore, to promote its use, it became opportune to propose strategic actions. However, it is necessary to identify the main factors that affect this sort of mobility as well as the problems have been faced by cyclists. The methodology is exploratory and based on bibliographies, specialized websites, reports from users and companies linked at subject. The proposal is to enhance the intermodality process between the mode of locomotion and bicycle use, demonstrating its benefits. It was concluded that the proper planning and investment in infrastructure can minimize the problems of the road system and improving urban mobility.
